Can You Write Book Reviews?
Would You Like Free Books?
The Bookbag is constantly looking for those unusual people who can write a good book review. They're the ones who understand that the reader wants to know what the reviewer thinks about the book and not just what's written on the back cover. At the moment we’re particularly looking for people who would enjoy reviewing Literary Fiction, Science Fiction, Fantasy and fiction for Teenage Girls. Please still apply if you would prefer to review in other categories, but you might wait a little longer for a book.
If you think that you're one of these special people that we're looking for, we want to hear from you. Here's what we'd like you to do:
Firstly we'd like you to write an original review of a book that you know well and which you'd be happy for us to publish on Bookbag. It doesn't matter if you love or hate the book and we'd prefer that it wasn't a book we've already reviewed. Tell us a little bit (not more than about 20% of your review - and definitely no plot spoilers!) about the book, just so that we get the flavour of it and then tell us what you think about the book. Use the 'Contact Us' link and put 'I'd like to be a book reviewer' in the subject line. Put your review in the body of the email rather than as an attachment, please.
Our reviews are usually about 500 to 1000 words long and we really do feel that less is better than too much! A review that's got lots of padding simply won't get past our quality control department. We like good grammar and spelling (please check before you send the review) but the odd mistake is not going to stop you becoming one of our reviewers, as reviews are checked by our editors before they're published. We reserve the right to change the wording of a review, but we promise not to change the sense. It's what you say that matters to us, not the way that you say it.
Most of the publishers from whom we accept books are based in the UK and we regret that, at present, we are unable to offer books to people not resident within the UK.
And here's what we offer:
We have excellent connections with many of the major publishing houses and with some of the smaller independent publishers. We ask them for books we're particularly interested in and sometimes they also send us books which they'd like us to consider for review. Occasionally this means that we have more books than our team of specialist reviewers can read as our aim is to get the review published at about the time the book is published. When this happens we like to call on other people to read and review the books.
If you're accepted onto our panel we'll ask for details of the type of book which you like to read and in selecting books for you we'll do our best to send you something which we think you'd enjoy. Once you have the book we'd like to have a review within a fortnight. Once the review is completed the book is yours to do with as you wish. The books we send ARE review copies. They're usually of the same quality as a book you would buy in a shop, but sometimes they're less than perfect or even a professional review copy. Please note that uncorrected proof copies are not to be resold.
As soon as your review is published, we'll start looking for another book which we think you'd like.
So, which book are you going to tell us about?
