Emma Dodd's previous book saw her turning her nose up posh dogs. Here she doesn't want a cool cat, a treat her like a fool cat. There are all sorts of other cats she doesn't want, until she gets to the type of cat she can call her own.
There's a lovely message about finding (and encouraging) the right sort of pet. Any family looking to buy a cat will enjoy poring over the pages, discussing what sort of moggy would be ideal for them. Those who aren't looking to add a new member to their family will still love the book: there are strong rhymes and rhythms throughout, and a sweet story to enjoy. (Those who aren't looking to add a new member to their family might find the requests to do so increase though!)
The illustrations are as bold and anarchic as they were in Posh Dog. Every child will chuckle at the greedy cat, stuck in the cat flap. Cuddles the tiger will raise a titter too. The words and pictures blend perfectly to create a glorious whole. Any young child who's remotely interested in animals will love it.
My thanks to the publishers for sending it to Bookbag.
