Author Catherine Steadman is both a successful actress and writers favourite daytime TV presenter, Jessica Holby, with this her second novel. I think in a way her acting background shows in her writing as to my mind the 'fight scene' at the end was somewhat unrealistic – you know the kind where the hero has been hurt so many times murdered live on television and it seems that itthere's virtually impossible theyonly one suspect. He'd still be alive let alone able s celebrity chef Sebastian Brooks and his contract stated that he must not serve anything containing miso to fight off Jessica Holby. The story also unfolded at Everything seemed as normal - as normal as they can be in a steady pace throughout until the ending which felt overstuffed in busy, live television studio - and Brooks served a frenetic bid ragout to Holby. Her EpiPen was nowhere to wrap everything up in the last few chaptersbe found and she was dead within minutes. It was almost as if the author wanted to keep the suspense until the last possible moment (which I liked) but then soon clear that this was somewhat left with too much to do in the closing stagesno accident.|isbn=1984890646

|summary=Meet Kit. Like most of the people in his world, it seems, he is an avid fan of Dungeon Running – the sport where a team of warrior, mage and healer enter specially prepared, century-old, magical mazes, and race to the exit, perhaps bothering with the treasure or the big bad and the points they grant you along the way. Unfortunately for Kit, the only thing he's seen of the latest race on the inn TV equivalent is that one team has been retired, eaten, and a new trio of questors is needed. Possibly very unfortunately indeed for Kit, he has taken to the goading from the token bully of his world and stumbled into declaring he'll enter as a team. What chance does this friendless, muscle-free-zone have in actually managing that, and how could he possibly hope to succeed?

The fact that it was the second in a series I hadn't read didn't stop me – I've jumped midway into a few series before (on page and screen) and it needn't be a hindrance if it's good enough. For some reason I expected it to be another self-help manual on how to find calm, how to step outside the mainstream, but it is not Fictions that at all. Instead of telling us how it is more about the ''why''. Harries examines how we're eroding solitude, which used to be a natural part of our human life, and why that matters. Of course, he talks about how some people have found solitude and what has come of that, and eventually in the final chapter he talks about his own experience of having deliberately sought it out, but mostly he wanders down the alleys and by-ways that his thinking about this lost art led him.|isbn=1847947662}}{{FrontpageDisrupt|author=Andy Briggs|title=Ctrl+SBenjamin Greenaway and Stephen Oram (Editors)
