Bear receives a mysterious message: Follow the trail of underwear. Find all TEN and you'll be THERE. He's delighted to be involved in a mystery and goes off hunting for the white pair which is number one. Once they are found he's off in search of the pair with blue stripes, then the pair with green spots, another in purple plaid and so on... Each page has a number tab for extra fun.
The suggested age range for this book is two to five years and the board book format edges it closer to the younger end of the range. It's a neat combination of counting (although the underwear is shown either individually or in pairs and the only occasion on which you get to demonstrate your counting skills is on the inside back cover when all ten pairs are shown), colours and patterns. The colours are vivid and Bear is an engaging guide through the mystery. The patterns are not always very visible - as in the case of the blue stripy pair or the purple plaid but that's me being pedantic and failing to appreciate that this is simply fun for children who will giggle about the underwear and probably take every available opportunity to say knickers.
The book is reasonably sturdy but the tabs will soon crinkle in use. The '1' tab on my review copy had bent in transit, but it's not a book that's going to have a long shelf life and you're probably better accepting that if the book is enjoyed and looks worn then it will have been worth the money.
I'd like to thank the publishers for sending a copy to the Bookbag.
For similar fun we can recommend What's in the Fridge? by Gaby Goldsack and Jo Moon.
