|summary=When Gina and Emily Makepiece inherit a stall in the French House, they know nothing about antiques which is what they are supposed to sell there. Also, at first, they do not have the inclination to find out much about them. However, as it was their dear Aunt Rainey’s dying wish they feel that they should try and make a go of it even if it does mean working with Matthew, the grumpy owner. Little do they imagine that they will soon become completely caught up in the world of antiques and, when the French House looks in danger of being sold, they will prepare to do everything they can think of to save it.
}}
Gina Makepiece has just moved to the Cotswolds to live near her sister Sally. They are intrigued when they discover that their dear Aunt Rainey has left them something in her will. In order to find out what though, they have to go to the French House, an antiques centre, where the owner, Matthew, has a letter from their aunt to open. It transpires that they have been left a stall in the centre and their aunt has requested that Matthew helps them get to grips with the world of antiques.

At first, Matthew does not seem very keen to take them on especially when Gina starts making suggestions about how to attract more customers to the somewhat run down centre. When it emerges that he will have to sell the centre to pay a longstanding debt though it would seem that he has no choice but to accept her help. Could he be thawing towards Gina in other ways too?

''A French Affair'' is an immensely enjoyable book; I was caught up in the story from the very first page. Having read most of Katie Fforde’s novels, it was a bit predictable in places but that didn’t spoil my enjoyment. The characters are very likeable and believable and I loved the fact that the story was set against the backdrop of the antiques world even if the only knowledge that I have comes from watching ''Bargain Hunt''.

The story moves along at a good pace and there are many enjoyable story lines. Will the sisters make a success of their inherited stall? Will Matthew have to sell the French House? Will Matthew and Gina ever manage to like each other at the same time? All of these questions were enough to make me want to keep reading in order to find out how everything turns out in the end. By the time I had reached the final page, it felt like a very satisfying read. It certainly won’t disappoint Katie Fforde fans in the least.
