"The eye-catching image on the cover of this glossy picture book certainly encourages young readers to pick it up and start reading. Two cute baby elephants gaze confidently into the camera lens whilst sharing a trunkful of lush green vegetation. There is just ""something"" about baby elephants, isn't there? Who could resist opening the book for a closer look?
""Elephants"" is part of the new ""Animal Lives"" picture book series. Each book in the series takes a closer look at a particular animal and uses photographs and an easy-read text to educate and entertain young readers.
The pictures in this book, as well as the others in the series, are beautiful, bold and bright. The publisher has selected pictures that make the most of the vivid natural landscape colours in order to create memorable images. In one heart-warming scene, a mother and baby stroll side by side against a pink backdrop as a peach-coloured sun sinks down beneath the horizon. A few pages on and we see a young elephant munching on some green leaves, its dark grey skin is stark contrast to the vivid green background. An a cinematic aerial shot, a herd of elephants can be seen running and kicking up dust on a golden, sandy landscape.
Each photograph is surrounded by bite-sized facts, which use simple language and large text to encourage young ones to learn more. Why elephants have trunks, what tusks are for and how fast elephants can move are just a few of the many interesting facts crammed into this picture book.
The book can be enjoyed as a standalone picture book, or read alongside the others in the series. Many thanks to the publisher for my review copy.
Elephant by Suzi Eszterhas follows the journey of a young elephant through to adulthood and will appeal to those who can't get enough baby elephant pictures!
