Kelley Armstrong revisits her hugely popular 'Otherworld' series in this collection of short stories, featuring many of the prominent characters from the series.

Clay and Elena battle over whether to tell the twins about their werewolf heritage, while also battling a child abducting mutt, Adam's mother learns the truth about her son's Demon half, Savannah and Adam take on a case with a super-powered half-demon and many other familiar faces return.

A lot of these stories are available elsewhere - some for free on Armstrong's website, others in anthologies - but for the first time they're available in one collection, and with a completely new novella, set after the end of the Otherworld series proper.

One of Armstrong's greatest strengths is her characters - and across thirteen books they are varied and eclectic, and all equally fascinating. It's great to have the chance to revisit them in this collection. And especially great that Armstrong promises two similar collections to follow.

The short stories offer background details and insights into the characters, but with a few novella length offerings, there's also a bit of plot to get your teeth into, making this a more satisfying read than a lot of short story compilations I've come across.

It's not a book to be read by a first timer to the series, however. I've read most, but not all, of the Otherworld books, and at times I was a little confused as to where the stories placed in the overall timeline. There were a couple of characters I haven't encountered before, and though I enjoyed their stories, most of these offerings are short and sweet, and therefore probably best enjoyed when you have a good understanding of the key players.

So, fans of the series looking to complete their collection of Otherworld material will find a lot to love here, and readers like me will probably enjoy revisiting their favourite characters, but you'd be best to start with the fabulous Bitten if you're looking to enter the Otherworld for the first time.

My thanks to the publishers for sending a copy.

Fans of fantastical short stories might enjoy Dead Man's Hand by John Joseph Adams (editor).
