All the children who love watching Timmy Time on CBeebies are going to love Timmy Wants the Blues with all their favourite characters from the pre-school series. Timmy is used to getting his way, being an only lamb and today he's decided that he's going to play with all the blue toys, which leaves the other animals looking slightly bewildered. He's delighted when Osbourne gives him a drink in a blue cup, and he doesn't care about any other colours other than blue. It's only when he starts to paint that he realises that perhaps it might be better if he used a few other colours – and he's delighted with his new picture of a rainbow which he finishes in – you guessed it - blue.

It's a sturdy board book suitable for the youngest children and a valuable introduction to the world of books as they're almost certainly going to be familiar with the characters from the television series. The text is short and to the point but there's plenty to explore in every picture (which look rather like stills from the television series) from Timmy hoarding all the blue toys to Osbourne's delight in his own drink from a pink cup and Timmy's consternation when he finds a yellow building block in amongst the blue.

It's not going to be such an immediate delight for a child who isn't familiar with Timmy and his friends but there's still much pleasure to be had from the book. It's light-hearted and gives an introduction to the concept of colours although the emphasis is on just the one. If you're looking for a more rounded board book about colours you might be better with Mr Pusskins - Colours by Sam Lloyd.

I'd like to thank the publishers for sending a copy to The Bookbag.
