It looks as if the party will have to end until Diggle comes up with an idea. This involves going to the field and picking leaves from the difflebug plants that he feeds to the nooglebooglers with what I can only describe as illuminating results. This is because, when they eat these leave, nooglebooglers' special ability is glowing in the dark – just what is needed to keep the party going.
'Only Nooglebooglers glow in the Dark' is a simple fun story that I feel sure will appeal to many children, especially those who like the idea of the monsters' pooh poo making the electricity work. The book is full of weird and wonderful creatures who are also perfectly illustrated by Mark Chambers. His humorous pictures match the story perfectly and the multicoloured hairy (and sometimes hideous) monsters are very well depicted. All of the pages are very attractive with lots of little details which are worth taking some time over.
We found the story quite entertaining and although it is well written, it is quite difficult to read out loud mainly due to all of the strange tongue twisting names of the monsters. I often found myself stumbling over my words as I read the story with my daughter. I guess I just need a bit more practice. Apart from their names being hard to pronounce, these monsters are very appealing and will probably be loved by both boys and girls.
