As parents, we can often be bombarded with questions as our children start to discover the world. These questions soon become increasingly complex, especially with the latest technological advances. How do computers work? What's inside a smartphone? How can earth communicate with spacecraft? Thankfully we now have a handy, illustrated guide to help us: Infographics: Technology.

The book is user-friendly because the chapters are tabbed like index cards to make finding information easier. There are sections on high-tech world, computers, robots, medicine, travel, communication and the future. There are no big blocks of text to wade through; each infographic is colourful and to the point, with plenty of bite-sized facts dotted around the outside of each page.

The information displayed on each page is perfect for satisfying curious young minds. It's detailed enough to explain how things work, but there is not so much information that it would overload or bore young readers.

Many of the sections deal with the evolution of products that we are familiar with today; for example how computers have made the transition from the abacus to the ipad. Those of us that remember using typewriters, negative film and cassette tapes may be disappointed to see that the 'technology' of our youth has been clearly consigned to 'the bin' in this book, although it does acknowledge that certain items, like vinyl records can climb back out of the rubbish pile and become popular again!

As technology goes, the book is surprisingly up to date, even covering things like wearable tech and 3D printing, as well as the potential applications for developing technology.

This is a great book for curious, enquiring minds and will entertain and inform adults as well as younger readers. Many thanks to the publishers for my review copy.
