In this sturdy, interactive board book little ones have clues to animals you might find on the farm, and can then slide the pieces of picture round on the facing page to uncover the answer.

The first page starts like this:
I lay EGGS.
I like to eat CORN.
I say CLUCK
Who am I?
You can see the clues are a really good prompt and most children will already know, or will quickly learn, the answers. After the hen (you guessed it, right?), we have a pig, a sheep and a cow, all farmyard stalwarts.
Much like the other books in the series, this one has a simple 3 colour palette, in this case black, white and yellow. It's a refreshing change from some over the top books, and still has everything you need, with lots of detail in the pictures. I do worry about these sort of concept books, but this one is extremely well made and will withstand a great deal of use (and misuse) at the sticky hands of little ones. The pictures each have three sections which move, but these only slide up or down so there's no danger you'll 'lose' the picture. The whole book is made of card so the pages don't bend (even the ones with segments chopped up) and the tactile design works well.
I'd like to thank the publishers for sending us a copy to play with. Also in the same set, we can meet household animals in Pets A Slide and Play Book by Surya Sajnani .
