Yara Evans was born in Brazil but moved to England in her early 20s to study English. She has lived there since, working mostly as an academic researcher studying humans. But her real passion is animals. Yara has looked after many stray cats over the years, and more recently, she has also cared for foxes that visit her garden. One of the earliest of these, Maggie, inspired her to write The Adventures of an Urban Fox, a book for children that tells about the vixen’s encounters with the cats and their attempts to push her away. Yara has since been involved in campaigning for the true end of animal hunting in Britain and for more compassionate treatment of all animals. She lives in East London with her three cats, Shy, Sombra and Curioso.
