Need by Carrie Jones
Zara's stepfather died in front of her after seeing a man at the window - it spooked him so much that his heart failed. Her mother is concerned about her, Zara's not herself, she's hollow after the sudden loss of the closest thing to a father she's ever had. So, she's sent away to live with her Grandmother, Betty, in Maine. However, Maine isn't the safe haven that Zara's mother thought it would be. People are going missing, young boys to be precise, the same thing that happened just before Zara, her mother and stepfather moved away from Maine to start with.

As well as this Zara is being stalked - the same strange man keeps showing up. Firstly, when her stepfather died, looking through the window. Then, at the airport and now he's standing outside of Zara's classroom window pointing at her and calling her name. With the help of her new friends Issie, Devyn and the lovely Nick they start to try and piece together what's going on in their small town.
Their conclusion: pixies. Now they must accept not only that pixies exist but they are kidnapping teenage boys. But what do the pixies want? Why they are preying on boys? And how are they going to stop them? But pixies aren't the only supernatural creatures that are real. The big paw prints in the snow seem to suggest that werewolves exist too, and they are people that Zara knows.
This is a really good book to kick start the series. Likewise to Entice, the plot is fantastic – the pixies are pretty cool and make a much needed change from vampires. It's well written and the characters are likeable. Actually most of them are pretty lovable; I wish I had a friend as cute as Issie. Having gone back to the start of the series after reading and reviewing Entice I can totally understand the Nick thing now, swoon!
Now onto Captivate!
Further reading suggestion: If you have read this book and liked it make sure you read the rest of the series Captivate and Entice. For something with the romance element and a touch of the supernatural read Lucas by Kevin Brooks. Or for something a bit more gritty try Once Bitten, Twice Shy by Jennifer Rardin - warning, it is an adult book and therefore unsuitable for younger teens.
A big thank you to the lovely people at Bloomsbury for sending me a copy of this and Captivate.
