KJ Lawrence read zoology at Oxford University before embarking on a first, rather short, career in academic publishing. A return to academia was followed by a second, and much longer, career in law before she decided it was time to hang up the gown and really knuckle down to writing and photography. She has also returned to her zoological roots and is now a trustee of an international conservation charity. She lives in London and Jersey. The Cossack is her first novel.
