The bare-bones-bio follows Allie from Stockport to Birmingham, where she studied English and Drama, and then to Queen Mary College, London, where she did an MA, lived above a pub and was burgled. Yorkshire came next, another pub and then a cottage. Back to Stockport for two kids, then off to Cumbria for a group of holiday cottages and a divorce. An on/off stay in a Staffordshire stately home was interspersed with several long trips in the US and concluded with a marriage, a return to Cumbria, four grandchildren and twelve novels.

The embroidered bio would mention that Allie loves a Friday gin and tonic and her two cockapoos. She listens to The Archers and audiobooks while she does the ironing, and will often hide in the toilet to finish a particularly good book in peace. She hates litter, The One Show, cruelty and anchovies, not necessarily in that order.
