Off to the Park! by Stephen Cheetham
It's a nice day and we're off to the park. Shoes on first - tie the laces - and then we're off down the street. We go over the road by the crossing (press the button, please) and open the gate into the park. It's a metal gate and we can feel the cold of the metal and hear the squeak as the gate opens and we're on to the gravel path. It's a long, winding path and we can hear the stones scrunch. But there's plenty to play with here, from kicking a ball around to going on the swings and climbing the steps so that we can come down the slide. There's even a tyre to swing on - and when we've played for ages there's sure to be an ice cream to enjoy.

Does it sound familiar? Good, because as you go through this board book you're going to be able to feel a lot of the textures. There's at least one surface on every page - from the path which feels like gravel, to the shiny red ball, to the button at the crossing which you're going to experience. Stroke it - feel whether it's smooth or rough - and you can even tie one of the shoe laces.
There's a neat touch - the pages are numbered but feel carefully and you'll find the braille symbol for the number at the side. The book has been developed in consultation with organisations which work with blind and partially-sighted children, but don't think that the book is just for them. It's a delight for any young child (and there's nothing to say whether the child going to the park is a boy or a girl) and it's good that all children should understand that that not everyone can see - or hear.
Here at Bookbag we're great fans of Child's Play International and it's not just because they produce great books for children. It's because they know that all children are different and that's it's never too young to understand what that means. We'd like to thank them for sending this book to the Bookbag.
We also enjoyed another book from Child's Play International - I'm a Little Teapot by Annie Kubler. Not all children are pink with blond hair - and some wear glasses or have a hearing aid.
