I didn't have much hope for this book - the middle book in a series tends to be filler, and as Partials was so brilliant, I though it was going to be hard to top. I was very wrong. This book is mind-blowing.

It picks up the story a little after where Partials finished - Kira has left Long Island to search for answers. Who is she? Why do the Partials have expiry dates? How is she going to cure the RM? The answers to these questions she believes will be at ParaGen - the company that built Partials. What she doesn't realise is that learning the truth is going to be difficult, and when she does find it, it will be hard to digest.

Kira is not the only one looking for a cure. The Partials are looking to solve the problem of their expiration date, and the crazy Dr. Morgan thinks the answer lies within humans. RM is killing every baby born; the government thinks the cure is within Partials. Both sides are so desperate to save themselves that they are prepared to go to war with each other to get what they need.

I cannot begin to express how amazing this book was. It's fast paced, gripping and intelligent. This series is quickly growing to be one of, if not the best Sci-Fi series I have ever read. It see the returns of some old favourites - Marcus is still on Long Island, wondering if Kira is ok, helping the government look for a cure and trying to stay out of a war. Then, of course, there is the return of the lovely Samm, the Partial whom Kira captured in the first book. My favourite aspect of this book was watching Samm grow more human; watching him learn to accept his emotions and express them was actually quite touching.

Thank you to the people at Harper Collins for a copy of this astounding book. Here's hoping there will be a third?

If you haven't read the first book in this series, then that is a good place to start. Another great dystopian Sci-fi book is Glow by Amy Kathleen Ryan, which has the added advantage of being set in space. If you fancy something a bit different try Double Cross (Noughts & Crosses) by Malorie Blackman, which takes a more realistic approach to the dystopian society genre.
