Paul Hencher, the son of a British army officer, was born in a military hospital in Egypt and spent his early childhood travelling to various different countries where his father was serving, remembering with particular fondness three years spent in Cyprus He was educated at Worksop College in Nottinghamshire and went on to have a very varied career finishing as a director of a rapid prototyping company in South Shields, Tyne and Wear. He now lives in rural Italy where he and his wife have renovated an old stone property. His hobbies have included amateur dramatics, as both actor and director – even writing a couple of plays. He has always had an interest in early English history and the natural world, and along with a love of Northumberland where he lived (and to where his early family roots have been traced) these influences have combined to produce ''The Leopard of Dramoor'', his first novel.
