It might also be thought that - short of the Earl turning up with an explanation - there's not a great deal ''new'' which can be added to the pile of published material on the subject, so I began reading ''A Different Class of Murder'' with the thought that there would be no great surprises.

Establishing the identity of the young woman is the first problem and this leads Rice back to members of a religious sect with some very strange rules. And then a second body - that of a young man - is washed up on a beach and it's difficult not to assume that there's a connection between the two.
