Picnics are fun, whether they’re at the beach, at the bottom of the garden or even on a rug in the living room. And no one knows how to picnic like teddy bears.

This a cutesy book for the littlest of little ones. It has a rhyme to it (but not ''that'' rhyme) and the teddies just have so much fun. It really maps out the whole day, from getting ready to go out, to finding a picnic spot, playing some games, tucking in to your yummy lunch and then running around to burn some of it off before traipsing back home, tired but happy. The focus isn’t just on what food to take but on the whole process of going on a picnic (not just eating said picnic, although when it comes to that there’s a good selection including healthy carrots, bananas and apples).

The illustrations are lovely, lots of pastel colours and crayon drawings, and while they may not be the most traditional of teddies, it’s a good reminder that teddies can come in all shapes and sizes. There’s a surprising amount of detail to spot and talk about together on each page too, which helps prolong the experience as otherwise it is a quite short book.

This is a calm, relaxing story, especially the ending, and it’s perfect for bedtime, though you might have to humour them by reading it a couple of times first. Sweet, familiar, friendly. I can only use good words to describe this story, and it’s a definite recommendation. Thanks go to the publishers for supplying this book.
