Marcus Campbell John Dalrymple was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1966. He spent his formative years in Mexico before attending various boarding schools in England including The King's School, Canterbury and The United World College of the Atlantic. Marcus studied English and Spanish at St. Andrews University in Scotland graduating with an MA Joint Honours Degree. After spending a year teaching English in Japan, Marcus returned to England and worked as a foreign correspondent for the Yomiuri Shimbun Japanese Newspaper, before formally studying journalism at the University of Wales, Cardiff.

Marcus has always had a love of adventure travel and has organised and participated on a number of high profile expeditions helping to raise money for different charities. These have included trekking the length of California's Sierra Nevada mountain range to raise funds for Cancer Research, cycling China's Silk Road for Friends of the Earth, mountain biking through Pakistan's rugged Karakoram Range and mountain biking across Mexico; coast to coast for St John’s Hospice.

In 2000 Marcus re-trained as a secondary English teacher though he continues to write free lance magazine articles for various publications, including Geographical Magazine and The Yorkshire Post. In 2010 he was honoured by the British Guild of Travellers Writers for a travel feature on Mexico.

In 2011 his first book 'Viva Mexico - A Year in the Sierra Madre,' was published by Black Cat Books. His first novel 'Killing Time,' was published in 2013. He is currently working on a second thriller also based in Mexico which he hopes will be published sometime in 2015.

Aged 48, Marcus still enjoys physical challenges. In 2013 he entered a 10 kilometre sea swim race in Doha Qatar and in 2015 he and his eldest son John, aged 15 will be attempting to walk 50 miles across the North York Moors in under 12 hours to raise funds for a local charity. Marcus is married to Sharon. They live in North Yorkshire with their three sons, John, James and Toby.
