''My Humungous Humongous Hamster'' is the story of what might happen if the hungry hamster ate all of his food in one gulp and got bigger and bigger and bigger. Each page shows the gigantic hamster in a variety of humorous situations, each one funnier than the last.
Lorna Freytag uses her amazing photography and editing skills to create some hilarious and surreal results. We see the hamster towering above the city skyline, using a Ferris wheel to exercise and eating trees like broccoli. He scares the local cats and dogs and gives all of the children a ride on his back. My favourite picture was the one where the hamster is helping the police catch criminals and has an unfortunate burglar hanging upside down from his paw.
My little boy loved this book and as soon as he had finished reading it, he dived back in to read it again. There is so much to see in all of the pictures and you are sure to notice extra details during subsequent readings. We had a lot of fun talking about the pictures and laughing at the hamster’s antics.
''My Humungous Humongous Hamster'' is a very funny book and an absolute delight to read. The hamster is so chubby and cute; it is hard not to fall in love with him. I just hope that my son doesn’t ask for one as a pet!
