It's lovely to find a book – and even better to find a series of books - which allow parents and children to do something constructive together. The first book which we looked at was Colours. On each double page spread there are plenty of things to talk about with your child, stickers to find and put in the appropriate spaces and then a game or an activity to complete. You'll find songs to sing, pictures to colour in and join-the-dot pictures to complete. There are even some smiley faces so that you can reward your child for what they've achieved. They're suitable for the three plus age group and will be enjoyed by both boys and girls.
The stickers are at the back of the book. Slightly clumsy smaller hands might find them a little difficult to remove from the page at first – a bit of finding the edge and bending the page is required, but it does get easier the more the book is used. Each sticker seems to stand up quite well to repeated use without the stickiness declining and there aren't too many areas of the stickers which are likely to get torn.
The stickers vary from the really quite small to a grey shark which is about twelve centimetres across, so the book is going to encourage manual dexterity and judgement as to what fits where (although there are some page numbers next to the stickers for parents who might not be quite so bright).
This review is about the book Colours which has over a hundred stickers. We've also seen Shapes, with over two hundred stickers, Counting with over a hundred and ninety and First Words with over a hundred and thirty. The books support the National Curriculum learning objectives.
I'd like to thank the publishers for sending copies to the Bookbag.
We like these books – they're a fun way to learn. For more stickers have a look at Bob The Builder - Real Trucks Sticker Activity Book by Keith Chapman
