David Melling is a well-regarded and recognised author and illustrator of picture books, and this recent offering from the Knight and his horse series keeps the standard up well.
A knight is asked to babysit a prince and a princess for a weekend. The horse helps, but it still isn't very easy: in fact, the mayhem and the mess and the exhaustion will be recognised by any parent of small children (especially with more than one!) Things change when an errant spell goes on the rampage (and the royal children are proved to be not so bad after all).
Magic mixed with humour make this picture book an attractive, entertaining proposition for children and parents alike while the artwork is simply brilliant. Zippy, ingenious and expressive illustrations are full of quirky touches and fascinating detail, but most of all very funny.
Parents and children will enjoy the humour of the pictures and the dynamism of the story which is recommended by the BookBag for borrowing and possibly buying for any preschooler as well as children in the first couple of years of primary school.
This book was sent to the Bookbag by the publishers.
