A rabbit lists all the things he can do, from doing somersaults to blowing up bubbles, before finally revealing that the thing he likes best is being with you (where 'you' are his little mouse friend). ''Me and You'' is a beautiful picture book perfect for reading together, all building up to a big cuddle at the end.
The simple, clear and exciting text tells a lovely story, but as with all picture books, the pictures are the true strength. The rabbit and mouse are cute and gorgeous. Their surroundings are vibrant and thrilling. Everything's beautifully drawn. It's lots of fun to pore over every page, especially seeing what the mouse is up to. When he goes missing for a couple of pages, you can't wait for him to come back!
I am, of course, far more craggy and cynical than ''Me and You'''s intended audience, but I did find the last page to be a little schmaltzy. It's by no means a bad thing - who can really complain about love? I was a little surprised by the change of direction from handstands, swimming and sandcastles though. I suppose that says more about me than ''Me and You''!
For a fun, light, engaging picture book, you can't go far wrong with ''Me and You''. My thanks to the publishers for sending it to Bookbag.
