|summary=Young fans of the Little Princess stories will know that she is a pretty determined character who always likes to get her own way. This sometimes means that she makes up her own rules in order to win which tends to work when she is at home at the palace but at school, the other children seem to get all the prizes. The Little Princess desperately wants to win a prize but is there anything that she really can excel at?

The Little Princess always likes to win so, when at the castle sports day she finds herself trailing in the running race, she insists that they all run in the opposite direction and then she has least far to go. When playing table tennis with the maid, she is always allowed to win. She is so used to winning that it comes as a big shock at school when other children win the prizes for numbers, painting, science and poems. It's especially disappointing as she really tried her hardest in all of those subjects. However, some of her efforts are quite scary, unorthodox, and even a bit dangerous as she almost blows up the science lab. Luckily, there is one more cup and as that's the prize for 'trying the hardest', there is obviously only one worthy winner!

This latest Little Princess book is just as enjoyable as all of the other books about this delightfully quirky character and seeing all of the familiar characters is just like meeting old friends. My daughter absolutely adores the Little Princess series and this one is no exception. I also like the message that it gives that you can't win all of the time and in fact trying one's best and taking part is just as important.

This is an excellent book for sharing with young children; from the beautifully simple storyline to the wonderful illustrations. If your child has read other Little Princess books, these will feel very familiar with the little princess displaying her own inimitable style. With her bulging eyes, scraggly hair topped with a golden crown, and her long white robe that never stays white for very long, there is no one quite like her. Children will love her unkempt appearance and her forthright manner. Some of the usual characters, such as the king, queen, general and maid, appear briefly but we also meet a whole host of new characters as we see the Little Princess at her school. There's the brightly coloured art teacher, the mad science teacher and the Numbers teacher who looks like everyone's granny. They all fit in so well with the types of characters that yo expect to find in this series of books and we love them!

The words are kept very simple with only a small amount of text on any page but this is really to allow the wonderful illustrations to tell the real story – which they do. You really need to spend time pouring over each illustration to get the most out of them. Everything about this book is so much fun that I am sure that it is one that my daughter will want to read over and over again.
