This third installment in the ''Travis Delaney'' series has a barnstorming opening. Travis is abducted by terrorists and held captive alongside Winston, the security officer gone bad who Travis suspects is the person guilty of his father's death.

Travis has a lot of questions. But will he get any answers? And can he get himself out of this horribly dangerous situation?

We are naughty people here at Bookbag. For some reason, we haven't reviewed the first two books in this teen crime series. I can't imagine what went wrong, since we usually pounce on a new story from Brooks. We love him and his wry sense of humour and often bleak outlook. Fans of his work should know that this series is a little bit different. It's aimed at tweens and early teens and it's much more about the action. This series is like, oh, I don't know, Kevin Brooks does John Grisham for teens?

There's a twisty-turny plot and you can''t trust anyone. The action comes thick and fast. And Travis is your typically relatable yet ridiculously courageous teen action hero. He's thrust into all sorts of perilous situations and comes through them with a mix of general decency, enthusiastic risk-taking, and a deep determination to get justice for his parents.

''The Snake Trap'' may well be for a slightly younger audience than usual for Brooks, but the author's trademark qualities still come through. There are no black-and-white, tidy endings. Characters don't always get everything they want - or everything they deserve for that matter. This third installment impressed us. The series is well worth reading.
