Pink. Glitter. Magic. Right from the start this book has all the ingredients needed to be a hit with little girls. I hate to stereotype but there’s no denying it with this one. From the author of Angelina Ballerina comes the first in a new, rather magical series.
Twinkle is about to start school, but it’s no boring village primary for her. She’s off to the Fairy School of Magic and Music. What a wonderful place that will be! Twinkle soon discovers a problem though – her spells just aren’t as good as her classmates’. She can’t quite conjure up what she wants to and the results are bordering on disastrous. Can she figure it all out before she does some serious damage to the Sparkle Tree Forest?
This is a sweet and funny book with lovely intricate illustrations that immediately transport you to a new world. Twinkle is a standout heroine who will easily lead a series of books just as Angelina did. We don’t meet that many of her friends in this book but the lovely and kind Miss Flutterbee is a stand out presence, guiding her young charges.
The story here is well developed and there’s definitely a message about working on things you’re not good at and trying to find workarounds to problems. I loved the solution here but I’m not sure parents reading this will, given what it might inspire in their own offspring!
I can’t help but recommend this book for the pre-school and early infant school story fans out there. They’ll love having it read to them, even before they get to the sparkly surprise on the last page.
Thanks go to the publishers for supplying this book.
Lots of little ones love fairies, but if yours prefer the other firm favourite of the moment, snowmen, Jolly Snowmen by Ned Taylor is a fun read.
