This is a positive, reassuring book, that’s perfect for sending them off to sleep feeling safe and loved. It has a classic feel to it, and reminded me of the bedtime stories I had 25 years ago, like ''Peace at Last''. It’s a lovely book to enjoy together with mum or dad (or grandparents, aunts, uncles, whoever) and I’d like to thank the publishers for sending us a copy.

It’s bedtime and you know what that means. Little Bear is tucked up cozy in bed and Dad’s just finishing reading his story. It’s time to sleep… or is it? Little Bear seems a bit too awake and every time Dad makes a move to go, Little Bear tells him how much he loves him. And it’s A Lot. He loves him more than all the toys, more than all the birds in the trees and the stars in the sky. More than… well, you get the picture. It’s very sweet, but it is bedtime and, you know, Dad’s looking rather tired himself.

This is a wonderful bedtime book, despite the prolonged ritual that you might not wish them to replicate, and is so beautifully presented. There aren’t many words and there’s lots of repetition with the theme so they can learn what’s coming next quite easily. The ending is sure to appeal to tired parents, too!

Each thing Little Bear loves his Dad more than is illustrated in a two page spread with lots of opportunity for incorporating added activities into your reading and re-reading, like counting or finding specific objects, or describing what’s on the page. There’s loads of detail and variety – when Little Bear says he loves Dad more than all the fishes in the sea, for example, the picture has them in Scuba gear standing on the floor of the ocean, surrounded by big fish and little fish and starfish and jellyfish. Simply delightful.

This is a positive, reassuring book, that’s perfect for sending them off to sleep feeling safe and loved. It has a classic feel to it, and reminded me of the bedtime stories I had 25 years ago, like Peace at Last. It’s a lovely book to enjoy together with mum or dad (or grandparents, aunts, uncles, whoever) and I’d like to thank the publishers for sending us a copy.

At this time of year, they'll also get a kick out of I Love You Father Christmas by Giles Andreae and Emma Dodd I'm sure, whereas our Top Ten Picture Books For Overcoming Bedtime Woes work all year round. We also enjoyed Fortunately, Unfortunately by Michael Foreman.
