It's a good story too, with plenty of twists and turns and I doubt that I would have seen them coming even if I'd been on better form. If you want a relaxing read that's going to make you think then I doubt that you'll do a lot better than this one. Thank you, Choc Lit and Sue Moorcroft for sending this book at just the right moment. | It's a good story too, with plenty of twists and turns and I doubt that I would have seen them coming even if I'd been on better form. Romance Reader Awards: Best Romantic Read 2011
Honor Sontag left her home in the States and came to the UK. Her career had hit a sticky patch but she was determined to take a four-month break in Brighton to think things over and get herself back together again. She needed a job that would help to supplement the money she had - and she definitely didn't want anything 'heavy'. The other thing that she didn't want was any sort of romantic entanglement. She's not even that tempted by the brother of her landlady, who's good looking, but his sister can't stop commenting about how irregularly he works although someone else mentions that he's on the buses. Not much of a starter there then.
Martyn Mayfair (good-looking, doesn't work regularly, but is on the buses) has no intention of getting involved with any woman with strings attached after getting his fingers burned, but he is drawn to Honor. One thing they have in common is a rather strange family background. Honor is in Brighton looking for her mother, who abandoned he when she was a baby. Honor's got a bit of a past too and it really does look as though it's going to ruin everything.
Some combinations are irresistible - and I don't mean Honor and Martyn! A book written by Sue Moorcroft and published by Choc Lit has got to be brilliant, but this time they both had a mountain to climb. I was fresh home from surgery and unwilling to stay in bed and recuperate, but Love and Freedom was the next on my reading pile. Despite being in quite a bit of pain I made myself as comfortable as possible and read it over the next couple of days. It was brilliant. I loved Honor - doing her best to live up to her name, to do her best by everyone AND sort out her own life. And those visions of Martyn out running did me no harm at all...
For something unusual but good from Choc Lit try The Untied Kingdom by Kate Johnson. We also have a review of Is This Love? by Sue Moorcroft.
