It's a light, easy read and I happily tripped through it in one sitting when I was sorely in need of something ''relaxing''. You can always rely on Pamela Fudge for that. I'd like to thank the publishers for sending a copy to the Bookbag. | It's a light, easy read and I happily tripped through it in one sitting when I was sorely in need of something ''relaxing''. Charles and Tessa have managed reasonably well since their divorce. Both adore their daughter, Megan and would agree that the other is a good parent - that is if they ever had any contact with each other other than the occasional text or email. Just before Megan is due to go to university Charles sends a message to Tessa via Megan. He has something which he needs to discuss with her and thinks that they should meet.
Meet? MEET? Tessa can't imagine what could be so earth shattering that they should meet, but they go for a meal and Charles enquires if she has the decree absolute from their divorce fifteen years ago. Tessa's sure that she must have it somewhere (she's methodical about keeping such things) but after searching everywhere it looks as though she and Charles are technically still married. How are they going to cope with this - when it seems that Tessa's solicitor disappeared soon after the divorce in a haze of scandal? Worse still, it seems that Charles might still have designs on Tessa and that her on-off relationship with Martin has become all the keener because Tessa's been distracted by everything else that's going on in her life.
It's an engaging story written in the trademark Pamela Fudge style although without the usual strength of plot. I really couldn't understand why Tessa and/or Charles didn't just go to a solicitor with the decree nisi and get everything sorted out. I couldn't understand either why they couldn't explain the problem to Megan, the most sensible of sensible girls. But - that's me being picky and people do strange things under pressure.
It's heartwarming. You will love Tessa. Her priority has always been Megan and she's built up her dressmaking business around her and Pamela Fudge captures perfectly that feeling of loss when your only child goes off to university - and the creeping, guilty realisation that life might actually be a bit easier without all that washing and tidying up to do! It's lovely to see her start to spread her wings too and to appreciate the value of friendship.
It's a light, easy read and I happily tripped through it in one sitting when I was sorely in need of something relaxing. You can always rely on Pamela Fudge for that. I'd like to thank the publishers for sending a copy to the Bookbag.
It's about a year since I read Never be Lonely by Pam Fudge and if Turn Back Time appeals to you then we think that you'll enjoy that book too. We also have a review of her Not What It Seems.
