Angus is not like other aliens. He is a peace-loving little fellow, who likes nothing better than sitting in his garden watching the flowers grow and sipping a nice cup of tea. Unfortunately, one day, a strange spaceship crash lands in his garden and out pops a cheeky, hyperactive green alien called Alvin who is rather a show-off. It’s time for Angus to teach Alvin a lesson about manners. Can the two aliens put their differences aside and become friends in the end?
When Angus Met Alvin is a very funny picture book and much of the humour revolves around the clash of personalities between the quiet Angus and the boisterous Alvin.
The artwork is bright and colourful and there is a lot to see in each picture. I liked the four-eyed dragonfly buzzing across the first page, as well as the little pink dog with wheels indeed of legs. The more you look at each picture, the more details you notice. Young ones will love the bold illustrations and vivid colours. The text features a variety of fun fonts which complement the pictures perfectly.
This is the ideal book to encourage reluctant readers as it is visually appealing and kids will be able to relate to the characters. It also has an underlying message about friendship and overcoming differences which will help young ones to develop their social skills and hopefully think about treating others with kindness and consideration.
I enjoyed reading the story of Angus and Alvin and hope that we see these two lovable aliens again soon in future adventures.
Alien fans will love Aliens In Underpants Save The World by Claire Freedman and Ben Cort. We also liked Bob and Rob by Sue Pickford.
