This is an entry in The Tiara Club series of books written by Vivian French. It's not necessary to have read any of the other books, though after this, I am sure your own little princess will definitely wish to. Set in the Emerald Castle, this is a school where young princesses go to learn the art of being the perfect princess. All the princesses in the Daffodil Room are the very best of friends and always try to be kind, helpful and gracious. Sadly, they have a nemesis in the form of the bratty twin princesses Diamonde and Gruella. These two may be pretty princesses, but their actions speak otherwise as they eavesdrop and try to cheat their way to the top.
When the Tiara Club princesses all learn that they are invited to the Emerald Island to solve a Magic Trail, with the winners to be ferried on to the Emerald Ball in a hot air balloon, all of the girls are VERY excited. Will the Daffodil Room princesses solve the trail first and get to ride in the balloon, or will Gruella and Diamonde manage to connive their way to victory? And will the princesses meet their handsome princes to have a happily ever after at the ball?
The print is nice and large, with every other page illustrated with charming pen and ink illustrations of some very modern looking fairy tale princesses. We have fairy godmothers and magic spells, so your little fairytale princess fan will not be disappointed. With the large type and illustrations, simple vocabulary and short chapters, it is a great bridging book for girls who are leaving readers and going to beginning chapter books. It will also appeal to the older, reluctant reader who prefers lighter reading as its not overly taxing and the plot is simple, yet not simplistic. As a bonus, there is a page of stickers included in the middle of the book featuring the two main princess characters of this book, along with accessories for the ball. They are quite high quality and no doubt will be seen adorning notebooks soon after discovery. Following the end of the chapter, there is also a teaser for the next book due out in the series, so be prepared for your child to ask for another. Luckily, there are several other books in the series, so it's not a problem.
I'd like to thank the publishers for sending a copy to The Bookbag.
If your little princess loves this book then we think she might also like Bethany the Ballet Fairy by Daisy Meadows.
