You know that old saying, 'never judge a book by its cover', I'm guilty of it. I always fall into the trap – if the cover isn't amazing I pre-judge. And that's exactly what I did when this book landed on my doorstep – I took one look at the broody vamp looking girl on the cover and thought 'emo'. How wrong I was.
This book just blew me away. I love my fantasy and sci-fi, so I've heard it all before – vampires, werewolves, ghosts, demons, the lot. I have never come across anything quite like this book; it's original, it's funny and brings something new to a worn out genre.
I'll stop gushing now, to the plot! Riley Blackthorne is following in her father's footsteps and wants to become a Demon Trapper. But, being the first female Demon Trapper is hard. That is until the only Demon Trapper on her side dies, her father. Now, she's on her own in the world and being a Demon Trapper is the only thing that's going to pay the rent. Something big is brewing though – all the demons in the city know her personally, by name.
With the help of Beck, her father's trapping partner, and Simon, the goody goody apprentice, she's got some muscle on her side, and she's going to need it.
I have to say, Beck is an amazing character – I kept flipping ahead to see when he was next going to turn up. I did find myself swooning a bit over him too!
Seriously, if you enjoy fantasy, do yourself a favour and get your hands on a copy of this book. How long do I have to wait for the second one?
I'd like to thank the publishers for sending a copy to The Bookbag.
Further reading suggestion: For more fantasy fun read try reading something by Garth Nix.
