We don't usually review novelisations hereabouts. We don't have anything against them but we can't review everything and so novels whose original form is another media altogether fall victim to editorial weeding. But sometimes you just can't resist making an exception. Lost Christmas is coming to your TV screens via CBBC this Christmas and it just looks gorgeous - watch the trailer on the right of this review! And Quercus have given this novelisation - from the film's writer David Logan - an equally gorgeous dinky hardback release with a doubly gorgeous cover.
How could I not review it?!
Anthony finds himself in Manchester on Christmas Eve, just in time for the year's first snowfall. He has no idea how he got there and no idea of who he is or where he came from. But in the course of one magical day, he will touch the lives of five very ordinary, but very troubled, people. There's Goose, who's gone off the rails since his parents died the year before. There's Frank, Goose's fence, whose marriage is the rocks and whose ex is about to emigrate to Australia with Frank's only child. There's Henry - Goose's probation officer - and Helen, his wife. Their daughter on the same day as Goose's parents. And there's Lal, who was burgled by Goose, and whose stolen bangle sets everything in motion...

The fun is in joining the dots, of course, and, as you'd expect, every loose end is beautifully wrapped up just in time for Christmas. This is one to read together and share - and don't forget to keep an eye on the TV listings and watch the original!
