Summary: As many of you will be aware, the Little Princess is not a typical princess by any means. She’s not graceful, she’s not clean and she isn’t really very beautiful either. Therefore, it will come as no surprise that when she decides that she wants a boyfriend, he is not your typical prince charming. Maybe, he will turn out to be her soul mate but, as this amusing story demonstrates, the course of true love never runs smoothly. | |

I WANT A BOYFRIEND!
Well, after all, she is a princess so she must be looked after too. So having decided she wants a boyfriend, it falls to everyone else at the palace to find her one. Eventually they settle on a ‘nice’ boy from the school called Donald. At first everything goes very well but after two days of giving each other flowers, they start to wonder if that is all. There must be other things that they can enjoy together but will they ever be able to agree about what they want to do?
This is another extremely funny book in the Little Princess series from Tony Ross. As always, we meet some of the characters that fans of these books will have come to know and love so well. Not all the palace characters are present this time though and it’s slightly disappointing not to have the King and Queen’s involvement in this story. Having said that though, we do get to see the Maid, the General and the Prime Minister and they are very funny as they look for a suitable boyfriend under bushes and in waste paper baskets. Of course, the star of the book is the Little Princess who is as determined and strong willed as ever. It would have to be a very brave boyfriend who would be able to stand up to her. She is very loveable in her own inimitable way though.
As always, Tony Ross’s illustrations are brilliant. They are always bold and colourful and his depictions of the various characters are very clever and funny. My daughters always particularly love the princess with her straggly mousy hair, bulging eyes and her somewhat grubby white dress. The storytelling is very straightforward but in such a way that it is thoroughly entertaining.
Overall, this is another very successful Little Princess book and definitely one to add to an ever-growing collection.
There are so many more Little Princess books so why not also take a look at I Didn't Do It!, I Don't Want To Wash My Hands! or I Want a Sister!
