"Almost everyone has had a noo-noo at some point in their lives; an object that brings comfort and solace like a dummy or a blanket or a favourite bear. Amongst friends and family I've seen a variety of such objects ranging from your typical teddy through to a mummy's satin bra (it has that lovely silky feel to it) and even, in one case, a bathroom sponge! This book depicts a variety of noo-noos and looks at their attributes (big, small, shiny, knitted...) and also what one does with them.

Most of the book is told in rhyme, all with very simple words and concepts such as noo-noo wet, noo-noo dry, noo-noos high up in the sky! and each thought about noo-noos is accompanied by an explanatory picture, so for example with the above quote we see a picture of a poor soggy noo-noo being dragged through a puddle in the rain, another blowy noo-noo being pegged up on the line to dry, and and aeroplane full of babies with different noo-noos including one poor baby at the end whose teddy has fallen out of the plane!

The illustrations are large and fun. There are lots of different babies depicted, all with that delightful toddler chubbiness about them. The colours are bright and best of all they are all doing something that you can identify with, as a little reader, and that parents and friends can talk about with their little ones, for example why is one of the babies hanging upside down? Is the one dressed as a bear on his way to a fancy dress party?

The rhyming is dropped towards the end where we reach the finale of noo-noos and one picture shows, quite accurately, two babies fighting over the same noo-noo until on the next page - uh-oh! - the noo-noo has ripped in half! Still, they're both quite happy after that with half a noo-noo each! It finishes nicely with a spread showing all the different noo-noos, so you can have a look through and see which noo-noos you remember and which you might like for yourself!

I like the variety of noo-noos included, all different colours and sizes, and also that some dummies and various soft toys included too. Even if your little one's security item isn't called a noo-noo they will very quickly understand what's happening and being referred to. And if they don't have one already be warned, this might induce the need for them to have a noo-noo of their own! This is a sweet book, quick and easy to read and not too onerous to repeat again and again!"
