What would you do if the doorbell rang and when you opened the door you saw a giant Trojan-Horse waiting for you? I for one would not drag the thing in; it would be too big and could be full of angry Greeks. The same could be said of See inside Dinosaurs. You may think that you are buying one thing, but instead you are getting an impressive triceratops skeleton, or a T-Rex model, or maybe even a book.

See Inside Dinosaurs is a 48 page non-fiction book that has full colour imagery and loads of facts about your favourite dinosaurs, as well as plenty of information on the ones that you don't think much off. However, to say that you buy this pack for the book is disingenuous as you also get the multipart skeleton that comes with added intestines – nice!

Taken on its own the book element of this pack is solid, if uninspiring. It's in quite a small format to fit into the box, so is already at a disadvantage. The information that Bright puts in the book is all decent, but is not something that you have not seen elsewhere many times. Young fans of dinosaurs will probably already own much better books than this on their favourite subject. Part of the book is also instructions on how to build the models, meaning that the factoids are squeezed even more. On its own, the book element feels a little under loved.

This means that another element of the pack feels loved and the skeleton is awesome. Made out of quality plastic it connects together so you can either have it as a whole on your desk, or pull it to pieces and start again. For the slightly macabre child you also get a collection of giblets that need to be fitted into the chest cavity. This is a little gross, but also a little cool. You don't often get the entrails to go with the skeleton!

The final element of the pack is a cardboard T-Rex that comes in pieces. You have to pop them out and fit them together; kind of like those foam aeroplanes you can buy. The T-Rex model also compares poorly to the Triceratops as it is this horned monstrosity that is the selling point of the pack.

As Bookbag is a site dedicated to the written word you can't overly recommend See inside Dinosaurs for the book element as there are other similar fact books that do a far better job. However, for a scientifically inclined child who still enjoys dinosaurs as they reach 7-10 years old, the Triceratops model alone is enough for them.

A book that takes creativity and dinosaurs, then cooks them in a special sauce is Excavate! Dinosaurs: Paper Toy Paleontology by Jonathan Tennant, Vladamir Nikolov and Charlie Simpson. Another great Dino book for the young is Robert Crowther's Pop up Dinosaur Alphabet by Robert Crowther.
