See You Later, Escalator by John Foster
Always a sucker for a good poetry anthology here at Bookbag, we've enjoyed two previous collections from John Foster. See You Later, Escalator continues in the same vein, with poems from the likes of Tony Mitton, Michael Rosen, Michelle Magorian and Brian Patten.

Summary: A superb anthology of rhymes for the very young. There's a great flow from poem to poem, plus many stand-out poems that cry out to be read aloud. Highly recommended. | |

We adored Twinkle Twinkle Chocolate Bar, but were a little less keen on Whiz Bang Orang-Utan as it didn't quite let its hair down enough. Thankfully, See You Later, Escalator is back on top form, with a superset of amusing, charming and evocative poems about childhood.
Particular favourites include Peggy Guthart's Ready For Spaghetti, Paul Bright's Ice Cream With Fish Fingers and Celia Warren's Cake-O-Saurus (ok, I might be a little peckish at the time of writing this review!) Kaye Umansky's Gorilla! is also hilarious, and Daphne Lister's The Wuzzy Wasps of Wasperton is brilliant fun. If you're not moved my Michelle Magorian's Sad or Peter Dixon's Cuddle then there's something very wrong with you!
The flow from poem to poem works brilliantly - themes develop naturally rather than there being rigid sections. It makes it perfect for dipping into, then getting sucked in and ending up reading the whole book. Kids will love it all, parents will smile throughout. Teachers could use the anthology for all sorts of lessons - although it's not a worthy and dull book by any means. It's a fine addition to any bookshelf and heartily recommended.
Thanks to the publishers for sending it to Bookbag.
As is usual with poetry reviews, we're recommending... nay, insisting, you buy A Kick In The Head: An Everyday Guide To Poetic Forms by Paul B Janeczko and Chris Raschka. Michael Rosen's Big Book of Bad Things by Michael Rosen is also great fun, as are There's A Lion In My Bathroom by Giles Paley-Phillips and There's An Alien In The Classroom by Gervase Phinn. We also liked Book by John Agard and Neil Packer (illustrator).
