Cleo and Gav seemed to have the perfect marriage. Neither of them wanted children and their lives seemed to be full of fun, enjoyment and love. But sometimes all is not as it seems as Cleo discovered the night that she'd made up her mind to go to a reunion and Gav said that she shouldn't go. She set off, but wondered if it really was worth causing so much heartache when she wasn't all that keen on going and turned back. When she got home she found that the writing was on the wall for their marriage – quite literally. It said, in marker pen on the bedroom wall This Marriage is Over and Gav had gone.

Summary: It looked like the perfect marriage but it collapsed under very little pressure and Cleo is left to pick up the pieces. Engaging character, good plot and I couldn't put it down!

So, what do you do when that happens? Do you sit down and cry? Try and get in touch with the disappearing husband? Or, do you go out and have rather too much to drink and a fling with a very good looking stranger? Cleo – normally very sensible Cleo – decides to go out and have rather too much to drink… Over the next few weeks it's Cleo who has to pick up the pieces from a marriage which she now realises was built on a lie and the repercussions of that wild fling with Justin.

This book should come with a warning: Do Not Open Unless You Have Several Hours to Spare. I really did only intend to get an idea of which reviewer would enjoy the book most, but I'd read about a hundred pages before a discreet cough reminded me that dinner would not be a bad idea. After dinner I read through into the early hours of the morning. Now, you're going to have a good idea of roughly how the plot will work out pretty quickly, but don't go thinking that his is another of those books where the middle three hundred pages are sandwich filling. They're not. There's a damned good story in there with some twists that I really wasn't expecting.

You'll love Cleo and you really want things to work out for her. You even know exactly how you want them to work out. Gav has been a bit of a prat and he's not entirely honest, but he does seem contrite and really wants to make a go of it with Cleo. Justin, on the other hand, is gorgeous, kind, laid back and doesn't trust Cleo an inch. And – on the evidence – why should he?

If you're looking for a really good, heart-warming read then this is your book. It's wonderfully well-written, with characters who stay with you long after you've finished reading. The story is very believable and you just have to keep reading to find out what happens. Highly recommended.

I'd like to thank the publishers for sending a copy to the Bookbag.

For more of life in the village where Cleo settled we can recommend Starting Over, but our favourite is perhaps Uphill All the Way.
