When you get a couple of policemen in your kitchen telling you that your husband has been badly injured in a helicopter crash you can be forgiven for being upset. On the other hand, if your family has the sort of income which means that your husband was as likely to be in a spaceship as a helicopter then it's quite permissible to say that the policemen have come to the wrong place and this is what Diane Jenner did. Unfortunately it also means that when they prove that it was your husband you've got quite a big adjustment to make.
And it's not just the helicopter that Diane had to adjust to. The family had been short of money for a long time and finding out that Gareth had said nothing about finding his long-lost father, being given rather a lot of money and a cottage as well as living a life of helicopter trips and fast cars knocked the stuffing out of Diane. The discovery of a mistress was almost the icing on the cake. But Diane's not a saint either.
Gareth was a passenger in a helicopter piloted by his half-sister. Her husband, James, is the long-suffering, pick-up-all-the-pieces type and gives Diane the thoughtfulness and support which Gareth would never have dreamed of giving. His marriage is a bit of a sham too and there's an immediate connection between him and Diane. There's also an, er, event in the back of his Mercedes which perhaps shouldn't have taken place with mature reflection, particularly as they're both the type of people who put their families first. So, how's it going to work out?
It's a great story. You'll love the people. I could have quite fallen for James myself if it wasn't for the fact that I'm already spoken for and it was lovely to see Diane grow into herself, become a successful business woman and give Gareth exactly what he deserved. Diane has just the one child, Bryony, but James has three daughters with the youngest being rather frail and it was good to see how their lives developed as a result of what happened. Despite having some very sad moments it's a heart-warming and uplifting story ad one that will have you cheering out loud if you're not very careful.
