Ten little princesses are going to a ball, but not all of them may get there. There are lots of distractions between the castle and the dance floor. Some of them are less than pleasant, like the scary monsters or the poison apple, not to mention the huffing, puffing big bad wolf (can see a familiar theme emerging?) Others are much more enticing, like a frog just begging to be kissed or a charming prince (on a skateboard, no less).

The thing is, with every thing that happens, we lose a princess in this reverse counting book. Soon there are only three left, then two, then just one, all on her lonesome. Poor thing, it’s not much of a partsy if you’re there on your own.

This book is super fun. The rhyme is great and encourages lots of shouting out of the numbers because even if you get a bit muddled as to where you’re up, the rhyme helps you out, leading you into it. What’s more, the colours really pop. This is a girly book, no two ways about it. Every page has pink on it. There are tiaras and wands and cupcakes and sparkle. What really makes it for me, though, is that these aren't feeble princesses waiting to be rescued or waited on, hand and foot. They set off on their horses, fearlessly riding to the ball. It’s their inquisitive nature at times that gets the better of them as they try new things with no second thoughts.

The details in this book are lovely, from the princesses' accessories (handbags, ankle socks, shoes that match their outfits perfectly) to the expressions on the faces of the animals they pass. Nothing is overlooked and I read through it again a second time just to focus on the lush illustrations.

This book is sure to be a hit, with its bouncy rhyme, bright pictures and flawless presentation. Highly recommended.

Thanks go to the publishers for supplying this book.
