Stanley Buggles is nervous. There's a werewolf on the loose, a pirate that will do anything he can to capitalise on the nearby gold mine, and the pike that lives in the glass case in his house is speaking to him in riddles. How will Stanley and his friends be able to stop all the baddies from taking over Crampton Rock?

The Treasure Keepers is the sixth book in the Something Wickedly Weird series. It's packed with adventure and excitement from the first page to last. The pace is relentless, throwing up all manner of spooky goings-on on every page. As a newcomer to the series, it took me a little time to get to grips with all the characters, but I'm sure that existing fans will feel right at home.

The fast pace makes it an ideal read for reluctant readers, who've had a taste of what books can offer. As an adventure series, they've got something to get their teeth stuck into. The writing style is clear and engaging. Once you're familiar with the characters, the plot isn't overly complicated, with any new aspects usually introduced and resolved within a few pages.

I particularly enjoyed Chris Mould's illustrations that are dotted amongst the pages. Much like the story itself, they have a spooky, almost ghostly, feel, but with a cartoony friendliness that means the reader is never scared. It was a treat to find a few extra sketches had been included at the end of the book.

My thanks to the publisher for sending it to Bookbag.
