Bedtime is a pull-the-tabs book about - unsurprisingly - bedtime. Page by page reveals child after child rubbing their eyes, changing into their pyjamas, kissing mummy goodnight, and cuddling up with teddy. Each pulled tab changes that picture, much like a before and after shot.
It's a very simple book, but it works excellently. The absolute youngest children will enjoy its pared down plot and introduction to a bedtime routine. As children get older and can pull the tabs themselves, it'll become one that they'll 'read' to you. They'll make up their own words, or remember the words that you read before. It'll be too basic for them when they're genuinely learning to read for themselves, but it'll help wonderfully with laying the groundwork for reading.
Maureen Roffey's illustrations are bold and bright, as you'd expect for any book for such young children. They're fairly standard fare, but this is no bad thing, as the book all clicks perfectly. The tabs might prove a little stiff for young fingers at first, but they'll soon learn the knack.
Other sister books are available: Playtime, Mealtime and Bathtime. Any young family dealing with any issues with bedtime, mealtime, or whatever it might be, will be able to structure discussions around the relevant book. They don't have to be read as issue books though. Any and all of them would make a fine addition to any bookshelf. Recommended.
