Born in the Northern Province of Zambia, Joel Mentmore travelled widely through southern Africa as a child, returning to the UK to complete his education. After graduating, he successfully wrote plays for the London fringe while working at one of the UK's leading universities. Later he provided technical consultancy services for global investment banks in the City, as well as writing services for small, agile technology firms; for a while he also ran a startup product design and manufacturing company. Joel lives in east London with his wife and two children. SMART is his first novel.
