Simon Marshall was born and raised in central London. He read History at University College London, before completing his Master’s in Imperial and Commonwealth History at King’s College London).
It was whilst researching his MA thesis that he became interested in Austrian history, noting the similarities the Habsburg Empire seemed to have with its British counterpart. These studies have provided much of the background material for his novel.
Since 2007 Simon has been living in various cities in France, writing and working as a Real Tennis Professional.
