Who doesn’t like to jump? Jumping on the bed, jumping with friends, jumping like a kangaroo – it’s all good!
This is a rather brief board book that nonetheless packs in quite a few suggestions. In its own way it promotes having fun, joining in, being active and other good things. Jumping is simple. It’s free. It doesn’t require any additional toys or props. And yet it’s so much fun, and such an entertaining way to pass some time. I rather think I may have to go and have a good jump once I’ve finished writing this.
One, two, three… Jump! is one of a number of books in the Little Movers series, all of which focus on a specific movement (climbing, crawling, running and of course jumping). They all follow the same model of bright pictures, curvy, casual font, and lots of opposites (in, out, under, over) so important words and concepts get imprinted on the brain.
The pictures are of the scruffy, pencil drawn variety. The children in Jump aren’t the most attractive – I’d even go so far as to say one of them is a bit ugly, and another seems to have some 5 o’clock shadow going on. But young readers aren’t beauty pageant judges, so it doesn’t matter to them. What they see is a number of children like them, having fun and jumping in different ways and in different places. Splendid.
This is an excellent quality board book that should easily withstand some dropping, throwing, bashing and chewing. The pages are big and clear for little eyes to focus on easily and there’s a lovely theme of wobbling in this and other books, showing sometimes you might be a bit unsteady when trying new things for the first time, and that that’s ok.
The whole series is recommended because the books show how fun it is to move and be adventurous in different ways and I’m sure there’s an advert out there somewhere that told me an active baby is a happy baby.
Recommended, even for the very, very little.
Thanks go to the publishers for supplying this set.
Once they've had enough action for the day, this age group might need calming down for bed. Bedtime (Slip-and-Slide Books) by Maureen Roffey should do the trick.
